Discovering Chapter 8 Compliance

Chapter 8, is a segment of the Traffic Signs Manual issued by the Department for Transport. This chapter serves as a comprehensive guide for companies navigating motorways, covering various aspects, including the essential requirement for rear chevrons made of retro-reflective material (as outlined in section 5).

Chevron pattern

The chevron pattern comes with specific guidelines. The stripes should measure no less than 150mm in width and should be inclined at an angle of 45-60 degrees, pointing upward towards the center of the vehicle. Additionally, these stripes should follow an alternating retro-reflective red and fluorescent yellow pattern.

Do different specifications apply to Larger Vehicles?

Larger vehicles, such as vans, require stripes of no less than 250mm in width, while cars and car-style vans should have stripes that are no less than 150mm wide. The chevrons on these vehicles must extend in an unbroken pattern onto the sides for 300mm, without surpassing the full height of the vehicle. This ensures a standardized and compliant approach to road safety.
